LINCOLN HOUSE

REFURBISHMENT AND EXTENSION TO THE EXISTING COMMUNITY SUPPORT CENTRE

Following a feasibility study reviewing the scope of elderly care in Cheshire East, we were commissioned to improve Lincoln House care home. The brief included the refurbishment of the existing home as well as creating a secure ten bedroom fully DDA compliant dementia care unit with en-suite shower rooms and a new dementia day care facility. This was achieved through new extensions and remodelling existing internal spaces.

The interior design principles tailored for the elderly included uncomplicated spaces, transparency, easily identifiable rooms, all signage and room names at lower heights, excellent lighting levels and a simple layout. The respite dementia care bedroom suite included natural roof lighting to the corridors with three projecting seating bays along its length to rest, with side views to the outside and a change in wall colour at each end to facilitate transition and turning points. All floor colours and thresholds chosen were tonally similar with very close light reflectance values to avoid confusion with steps and to try and minimise tripping.
