Botany

The Practice was commissioned to produce a Draft Masterplan for the Botany area of Chorley.

The Masterplan grew to demonstrate how a comprehensive mixed-use development can at one and the same time integrate the loose edges of a variety of different settlement areas and positively create a distinctive image for this quarter of the town. Botany already exists as a popular destination for visitors and is physically an easily recognisedlandmark which quite literally places Chorley on the map.

The illustrations show the canal brought to prominence as a significant landscape asset. The architecture should be encouraged to be positive, building on the iconic significance of the Mill and the surrounding topography.
